About Villa Hylas

Who are we

We are Peter & Jolanda and have been living in our own oasis of peace, Villa Hylas, since May 2021, surrounded by the hills, bay and beautiful nature in the Kilada valley.

Our goal is to give every guest a unique, and relaxed holiday feeling to their liking...

Relax to happiness.

Jolanda has many years of experience in all facets of the profession in 5* deluxe hotels in Amsterdam and Peter as a telecom engineer. What has made us both successful is listening to the customer's wishes, care and personal attention. So you will certainly not lack an excellent stay and good WiFi.

As hosts we like the good life, good cooking a good wine and a good conversation. We can give you personalized advice on nearby sights, activities and restaurants.

Our beautiful garden is a paradise for any garden lover. We can let you taste delicious olive oil from our own 30 olive trees. From the lemons we make lemonade syrup, limoncello and our own secret recipe 'grapefruitcello'.

All in all, we look forward to welcoming you as our guest! We will do our best to make it as relaxing as can be!

History

Hylas

The name Hylas comes from a story from Greek mythology, which fits beautifully with the at least 100 year old fresh water source that we have on our property and from which we get our fresh water every day.

Just part of the story of 'Jason and the Argonauts'...

Jason could become king if he retrieved the "Golden Fleece", a golden sheepskin of a divine ram from the kingdom of Colchis and handed it over to the then king Pelias. He had a boat, 'the Argo' built, a purpose-built boat with 50 oars and for protection the bow was made from a piece of talking oak from Dodona. From all over the kingdom, 50 volunteers were sought and so the search began with 50 Argonauts. Two of the argonauts were Heracles and Hylas who were friends. The Argonauts visited many islands on their way to the kingdom of Colchis. In the meantime, they had been on the road for more than two years. They go from one adventure to the next. In order to gain time, the Argonauts competed among themselves to see who could row the longest, where everyone gave up fatigue and Heracles finally broke his oar. Hylas went ashore with Heracles, Heracles for wood for a new chip, and Hylas for fresh water. At the Pegae well Hylas encountered nymphs, they fell in love with him instantly and drew him into the well. He screamed for help which was heard but no one could find him and Hylas was never heard from again. Heracles stayed behind on the island to search for his friend forever. The argonauts continued on their journey.
